S+W x Zalando
STONE+WARD been selected to design the architecture for Zalando’s new headquarters, bringing our minimalist and timeless approach to a major commercial project. This collaboration reflects our expertise in creating functional, thoughtful, and enduring workspaces.

STONE & WARD has been selected to design Zalando's new creative engineering headquarters in East London. The commission explores the delicate threshold between digital work culture and tactile spatial environments, reimagining how multidisciplinary teams collaborate in a post-screen era.
The architectural response centers on an expressive timber post-and-beam structural grid, incorporating locally sourced Douglas fir columns and acoustic wood-wool ceiling baffles. A central triple-height daylight atrium draws diffuse northern light through the heart of the floorplates, establishing a serene, contemplative spatial rhythm.
Material tactile honesty anchors every detail: rammed-earth acoustic partitions, raw monolithic limestone meeting tables, and bead-blasted stainless steel balustrades create a calm, grounded atmosphere that actively counterbalances digital fatigue. Avoidance of synthetic veneers and plastic laminates ensures non-toxic, healthy indoor air quality.
Designed as an enduring civic armature, the structural layout accommodates radical spatial reconfiguration over decades without requiring structural demolition. The project sets a new benchmark for workplace wellness and sustainable adaptive architecture in central London.
